The Feros Difference
All Feros Care recipients and carers are entitled to a wide range of additional services which we call Signature Features. These signature features are designed to make a difference to the quality of life experienced by care-recipients and carers.
Our signature features define the Feros Difference and sets us apart from other aged and community care providers.
Each of our service programs has its own Signatures Features which can be viewed under Our Services.
Our organisation and program-wide signatures include:
Community Owned and Operated:
Feros Care is a community owned non-profit company. We are what we are today due to the communities we serve and we continue to focus on community development and participation rather than profit making.
Community Gateway:
Our Community Gateway is a 24/7 contact and enquiry point available on 1300 763 583. The Gateway can help care-recipients, carers, health providers and staff. It is supported by real, knowledgeable and trained personnel capable of helping existing and prospective recipients navigate through the variety of available aged and community care services.
Personalised Care Provision:
An Individualised Care Plan is developed for each care-recipient in consultation with carers, key family members, friends and health professionals. These plans are routinely monitored and seek to actively support the individual’s right to lifestyle choices, advocacy and independence.
Case Management:
Feros Care Managers are highly skilled health professionals with significant experience in coordinating and accessing available resources within the service program and wider community to meet the individual care needs of care-recipients.
Multi-disciplinary Care:
We take a person-centred approach to care that includes the participation of multi-disciplinary health specialities including GPs, geriatricians, psycho-geriatricians, allied health professionals (pharmacist, physiotherapist, occupational health and exercise physiologist) and complementary therapies.
Eden Alternative:
Feros has embraced the Eden Alternative. This philosophy focuses on making life worth living by confronting the ‘plagues of ageing’, namely loneliness, helplessness and boredom. We are working on ‘edenizing’ both of our villages and at home services.
Beautiful Resort Style Facilities:
Both Feros Village Byron Bay and Feros Village Bangalow are surrounded by professionally landscaped gardens and pathways and located in lovely holiday-orientated communities. They are more like aged care resorts than homes.
Coastal Living and Community Participation:
Feros Care encourages care-recipients to enjoy the benefits of coastal living by participating in the numerous community and social events available in Byron Bay, Bangalow and in coastal QLD.
Wellness and Lifestyle Program:
Feros Care promotes healthy ageing, positive mental health and physical fitness amongst seniors. All care-recipients are encouraged to participate in fitness activities and education sessions that seek to improve balance, mobility, flexibility and wellbeing.
Social Engagement:
Social engagement assists with strengthening social relationships and support mechanisms and encourages independence. Feros organises numerous social activities that are developed in consultation with care-recipients to ensure their interests and needs are addressed.
Alternative Therapies:
Feros supports recipient choice in using alternative therapies to enhance quality of life. Feros has an active foot care program which includes reflexology and massage. Physiotherapy, occupational, personal massage and aromatherapies can be arranged for any care-recipient.
Counselling and Chaplaincy:
We have a Chaplain/Counsellor on staff available to assist care-recipients, carers and loved-ones with emotional and spiritual needs. Grievance counselling is also available.
Feros Care Bus Services:
Our bus provides transport to events, routine shopping trips and fulfils special needs such as transport to and from respite and appointments. Nominal fees apply.
Seven Star Training:
Feros care-givers are highly trained and devoted to caring for seniors and their personal needs with dignity and respect. All staff undergo a comprehensive orientation, complete mandatory training competencies and participate in ongoing education programs.
FISH! Philosophy:
Feros has adopted the FISH! philosophy to encourage the creation of an innovative and accountable work environment where playful, attentive and engaging attitudes lead to more energy, enthusiasm, productivity and creativity.
Applauding Innovation:
This innovative recognition and reward program encourages staff to identify opportunities for improvement in work practice, service delivery and customer service. Every year we hold an Innovations Cup to honour these achievements and have a good time.
Investment in Leadership:
Our Board of Directors and senior management participate in innovation workshops, conferences, ACHSE Health Leadership Courses and national and overseas study tours. Feros believes in succession planning and promotes middle management leadership initiatives.
Beyond Accreditation:
Feros Care has nine consecutive years of accreditation recognition with the Aged Care Standards Agency. We are also systems-ready for Community Care Quality Reporting. We remain committed to continuous quality improvement and are working towards the implementation of the Business Excellence Framework.
Technology Savvy:
Feros uses appropriate technologies to maximise direct service delivery. These include web-based document management, integrated care-recipient databases, area-wide networks and ISDN and VOIP telecommunications and mobile technologies to ensure frequent care plan communication and reduce staff travel time to administrative hubs.
