Communication

Making decisions about aged and community care is difficult.

It represents an enormous change for everyone involved. For some it involves leaving a family home or having a non-related care-giver in the home. Suggesting to a parent, spouse or loved-one that they would be better cared for somewhere else or by someone else can be heart breaking.

The tension between love and necessity can cause stress and anxiety for all involved. The only way to work through these feelings of fear, uncertainty and guilt is to talk openly about it with family and friends.

There is a lot to consider including support, finances, timing and care choices. Sitting around together and talking about the decision making process ensures that the best possible decision is made for the individual and those that love them.

Communication creates understanding and provides the ongoing support to make the decision work.
