Service Description
Veterans’ Home Care is a Department of Veterans’ Affairs program that helps Australian veterans, war widows and widowers with low care needs to maintain their health and wellbeing and remain living independently in their own homes

Care Package
Our care package includes:
- Domestic Assistance including household cleaning, dishwashing, clothes washing and ironing, shopping and bill paying.
- Personal Care including assistance with daily self-care tasks, such as eating, bathing, toileting, dressing, grooming, getting in and out of bed and moving about the house.
- Home and Garden Maintenance, focused on assisting veterans to keep their home safe and habitable by minimising environmental health and safety hazards. Does not include major home repairs, landscaping or gardening.
- Respite Care, as determined by the Veterans’ Home Care Assessment Agency.
Eligibility for any of the above care services, initial and ongoing approval for service access are determined by the Veterans’ Home Care Assessment Agency contactable on 1300 550 450.

Signature Features
Our signature features that can ‘make a difference’ include:
- services delivered by professional and qualified care-givers who have a passion for working with aged people and people with a disability and see it as a privilege to do so
- use of best practice guidelines to ensure services are targeted and responsive to individual needs
- assistance with arranging regular and planned respite breaks
- priority access to other Feros Care community, respite and residential care services
Eligibility
Only members of the veteran community are eligible to be assessed for Veterans’ Home Care. To be eligible you must be:
- a veteran of the Australian Defence Forces; or
- a war widow or widower of a veteran of the Australian Defence Forces;
and have either
- a Repatriation Health Card – for all conditions (Gold Card); or
- a Repatriation Health Card – for specific conditions (White Card).
The Department of Veterans’ Affairs is available to discuss veteran eligibility status on 133 254 or you can visit Department of Veterans’ Affairs website.
Access to Veterans’ Home Care is not automatic. Eligibility is determined by the Veterans’ Home Care Assessment Agency available on 1300 550 450 who are responsible for referring care-recipients to approved service providers, such as Feros Care.

REFFERAL |
You can contact the Veterans’ Home Care Assessment Agency directly on 1300 550 450 for an assessment. Alternatively, ask your GP whether Veterans’ Home Care can assist you in continuing to live at home. If the answer is yes, you will be referred to the Veterans’ Home Care Assessment Agency. |
ASSESS |
The Veterans’ Home Care Assessment Agency will conduct an assessment, determine your eligibility and inform you of any co-payment (if applicable) develop a service plan and refer you to an approved service provider, like Feros Care. You can ask for Feros Care to be your preferred provider. |
ARRANGE |
One of our experienced Feros Care Managers will contact you following a referral from the Veterans’ Home Care Assessment Agency to make service delivery arrangements. |
RECEIVE |
Prepare to receive the home care you need to stay at home and look forward to an improved quality of life. |

Affordability
The Veterans’ Home Care Assessment Agency will determine, at the time of assessment, if a fee applies. All Veterans’ Home Care recipients are expected to pay a small fee to Feros Care and fees range as follows:
- Personal care - $5 per hour to a maximum of $10 per week.
- Domestic assistance - $5 per hour to a maximum of $5 per week.
- Home and garden maintenance - $5 per hour for each hour of service.
- Respite care – no co-payment applies.
A direct debit arrangement where fees are deducted fortnightly from a nominated bank account is the preferred method of payment. Feros Care also accepts credit card, cheques or cash payments.
