Service Description
- Day Respite Centres provide day-time relief for carers usually in a residential or community centre.
- The Feros Care Day Respite Centre is available every Monday at Feros Village Byron Bay.
- Operating hours are 9am to 2pm with the ability for an 8am start upon request.
Feros Care is actively seeking to expand and regionalise this program.

Care Package
Our care package includes:
- comprehensive care planning and ongoing assessments
- 5 hour sessions of respite care
- morning tea and lunch
- choice of activities and entertainment
- support for those who suffer from memory loss or confusion
- social opportunities and joint activities with the residents of Feros Village Byron Bay
- regular outings on the Feros Care bus
- easy access to disabled toilets and entry ramps
- assistance with personal care including eating, medications, treatments, some wound care and communication aides
- access to nursing and personal care assistance, if required
- access to a purpose built resort style with easy walking path through lush gardens

Signature Features
Our signature features that can ‘make a difference’ include:
- services delivered by professional and qualified care-givers who have a passion for working with aged people and people with a disability and see it as a privilege to do so
- use of best practice guidelines to ensure services are targeted and responsive to individual needs
- on-site catering using fresh quality local produce
- wellness and lifestyle oriented activities that promote socialisation and healthy ageing
- transport to and from planned Feros Care activities and day trips
- manicures, hand massages and companionship provided by our friendly volunteers
- counselling and chaplain services
- assistance with arrangements for regular or planned respite breaks
- priority access to other Feros Care respite, community and residential care services
Eligibility
All seniors who require assistance with daily living and whose main carer is a working family member or friend are eligible for this service.
Working is defined as participating in or looking for paid work, undergoing training, study or voluteering as a means to finding meaningful employment.
Feros Care also has services for non-working carers. Just talk to our Respite Care Team on 1300 763 583.
Eligibility is assessed by a qualified Feros Care Manager in consultation with the carer(s), prospective care-recipient and significant others.
Carers can self-refer to Feros Care by calling 1300 763 583 or be referred by the Commonwealth Carers Respite Centre contactable on 1800 059 059.

RING |
Ring our Respite Care Team on 1300 763 583. You will be allocated a Feros Care Manager who will assess your respite needs and outline eligibility and assessment requirements. Arrangements can also be made to visit the day centre to try out the service. |
DECIDE |
Our Feros Care Manager will answer any questions you may have about the service including fees and care planning. Discuss your decision with family and friends. Review the care plan and sign the Care-Recipient Agreement which outlines the terms and conditions of service delivery. |
BOOK |
Book the respite services you need with your Feros Care Manager. |
RECIEVE |
Prepare your loved-one and/or yourself for their respite experience. Take the time you need upon arrival to settle in and look forward to an improved quality of life for you and your loved-one. |
Value Adding
The following services may be available upon request for an additional fee:
- transport to and from the centre (approximately $5 per trip within the Byron Shire).
- some activities including day trips outside the shire
Affordability
The Feros Day Respite Centre is subsided by the Commonwealth Government under the National Respite for Carers Program.
The service costs $10 per day. Limited placements are also available for full-fee paying carers.
Allowances and subsidies are available for those families who are financially or socially disadvantaged.
A direct debit arrangement where fees are deducted fortnightly from a nominated bank account is the preferred method of payment. Feros Care also accepts credit card, cheques or cash payments.
