Volunteering

A volunteer is anyone who, without compensation or expectation of compensation beyond reimbursement, performs a task at the direction of, or on behalf of, Feros Care.

Feros Care is fortunate to have a number of active volunteers supporting our services and providing companionship to residential and at-home care-recipients and their carers. We are always looking for volunteers who are interested in enhancing the quality of life of the elderly through laughter, companionship and support.

Volunteering is rewarding and benefits the community as well as the volunteer.Volunteering is rewarding and benefits the community as well as the volunteer.

With Feros Care, volunteer activities can include shopping, visiting, social activities, crafts and hobbies, outings, home maintenance, fundraising, transport and gardening and a number of other interest and professional areas. In some cases just sitting with an unwell care-recipient can make the world of difference.

New volunteers are always welcome and there are as many different ways to participate as there are personal interests.

Feros Care does not use volunteers under any circumstances to substitute for the paid work of employees. A volunteer must be officially accepted, registered and trained by Feros Care prior to the performance of any task.

Have a look at our Volunteers Brochure for more information or contact our Volunteer Coordinator via the Feros Care Business Centre on (07) 5669 0555.

All prospective Feros volunteers are required to complete a Volunteer Application Kit. This kit contains the following forms:

The Volunteer Application identifies your interests, expertise and talents, personal contact details, information about your education and qualifications, employment history and asks you to identify two referees.

It is a requirement under the Aged Care Act that all aged and community care volunteers complete a Criminal History Check form prior to commencing volunteering. This information is forwarded to the Australian Federal Police who are responsible for identifying any criminal offences and notifying Feros Care. Only successful volunteer applicants will be required to undergo an Australian Federal Police check.

In addition, all prospective volunteers with Feros Care are required to complete a Statutory Declaration form certifying since the age of 16 they have not been convicted of murder or sexual assault and/or convicted of, and/or sentenced to imprisonment for any other form of assault.

Feros Care cannot accept a volunteer who has a history of murder, physical or sexual assault offence.

It is preferable for the Criminal History Check and Statutory Declaration forms to be signed by the applicant and appropriately witnessed and submitted with the Volunteer Application Kit. Both of these forms must be completed prior to commencing volunteer duties with Feros Care.

Once we are in receipt of your Volunteer Application Kit our friendly Volunteer Coordinator will contact you and arrange an appropriate time for an interview to discuss the many volunteering possibilities available to you.
