Whilst working in the heart of our 68 bed Kingscliff village, the Positive Living Assistant works closely with the Team Leader, Resident Support Liaison and volunteers to implement and evaluate the current positive living and lifestyle programs. As a member of the Positive Living Team, a strong focus will be to ensure healthy active aging, falls prevention and community engagement as part of the programs you provide.

You will be an exceptional role model for these principles and model of care. You will be instrumental in creating another chapter and a life worth living for residents by contributing to programs that are meaningful and truly offer something special to our residents and their families.

Shifts will be from 8am - 3.30pm, working across 7 days per week. At this stage we anticipate approx. 3 shifts per week on average with potential for more.

From 1 May 2020, it is a mandatory requirement from the Department of Health that an up to date flu vaccination is required for ALL persons to be able to enter Residential Aged Care Facilities. As part of our Feros Care recruitment process, we ask that all applicants are aware of this new requirement and should you have any reason not to obtain a vaccination, that you speak with your dedicated Recruitment Advisor. 

 

What are some of the things I will be doing?

  • Implementing the lifestyle calendar ensuring individual residents recreational needs and wants are catered for
  • Contributing to an atmosphere throughout the village where everyday events become an activity and where timeframes and pre-planning become less of a priority - your aim is to create spontaneity and endless opportunities for fun, social interaction, participation and engagement
  • Implementing lifestyle programs that are flexible enough to accommodate unforeseen circumstances at a short notice
  • Responding to resident needs during activities, including assistance with unexpected personal care needs, to support continued engagement with activities.
  • Assisting residents to transition between activities; provide assistance to residents alongside homemaking and catering teams at meal times.
  • Playing a key role in planning theme days and being the coordinator for such events to ensure maximum organisation and participation by residents, staff and visitors
  • Regularly reviewing programs by completing evaluations of activities and considering feedback received from residents, families and staff
  • Providing support and supervision to volunteers
  • Conducting initial assessment documentation for all new admissions to the village
  • Developing individualised care plans, reassess and review these care plans on a 3 monthly basis
  • Confidently using technology such as smart phones, tablets, laptops, video conferencing, GPS and search engines to access information and support our clients


The boxes you have to tick:

  • Ability to be flexible with days of work 
  • Comfort level implementing activities in secure dementia unit
  • Knowledge of appropriate activities geared to engage individuals with differing levels of dementia
  • Experience in providing lifestyle and falls prevention opportunities for older people
  • Recent experience creating programs, events and activities specifically for older people
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create and maintain plans, calendars, surveys and reports
  • An interest in complementary therapies
  • Current Senior First Aid Certificate
  • Current drivers license and willingness to drive village mini buses
  • Physical suitability and competence: Physical fitness including (but not limited to): manual handling, carrying, standing/sitting for long periods of time


Brownie Points:

  • Certificate III in Aged Care or working toward it
  • Tertiary qualifications in Lifestyle or Leisure & Health
  • Dementia Training
