Our People Stories

We work with some true dream makers at Feros Care.

From community and residential care workers, allied health professionals, to business and operations staff, our people bring to the table a wealth of knowledge and skill – and, above all, stories! Read them below.

Feros Care client Darryl Ferney wearing boxing gloves standing in a boxing ring

Just as our trailblazing Feros Care team members aren’t your typical aged care workers, 76-year-old Darryl Ferney isn’t your typical aged care client.

Boasting an eclectic backstory with a rich tapestry of interesting and downright cool professional and personal highlights, he’s about as vanilla as a rainbow paddle pop. In other words, Darryl obliterates the ‘boring and beige’ stereotype sometimes associated with his age group, and is the personification of an aged care recipient reframing public perception.

Paulette Taylor smashing steraotypes around ageism

Paulette is actively changing perceptions about aged care. When Paulette tells people she’s still working in physiotherapy at 81 they have their doubts.  “I find the first misconception is, she’s old, and therefore she’s frail. Followed by she’s old, therefore she can’t be with it,” Paulette reveals.  Paulette’s story has been brought to life in Feros Care’s groundbreaking new documentary series, SMASHING!

Standard employment isn’t the right fit for Dave. But thanks to Career Journey he has discovered what is, and how to pursue it.   Since Covid entered our lives, the way we view employment structure has changed.  The 9-5 workforce stereotype is no longer the norm, with work-from-home and hybrid opportunities becoming more common.  People have […]

Deepa, Clinical Manager at Wommin Bay Village, smiling with resident Bernie (also smiling!)

Softly spoken, sweet-natured, and truly dedicated to her work, it’s undeniable that Deepa Shrestha is an asset to the residents and her colleagues at Feros Care’s Wommin Bay Residential Village.

Her story from arriving in Australia in 2017 with no formal qualifications to becoming Clinical Manager at Wommin Bay is an inspiring one. Fostering special connections with the residents who have become like family, Deepa personifies why Wommin Bay is a haven for happy, holistic, and bold ageing.

Feros Care recently hosted their very first “Career Journey” program in the Whitsunday paradise. It was quite a big deal because it brought together 11 really determined people with disability, each one with a big entrepreneurial dream.

Daniel Bartholomaeus at Fearless Films Season 4 screening

We are thrilled to congratulate Bus Stop Films student Daniel Bartholomaeus – a valuable crew member in our Fearless Films-Season 4 series, for his recent wins in visual arts and community service, taking out not one, but two highly coveted titles. These accolades recognise his exceptional contributions to art, and the community where this neurodiverse artist has been lauded as a mentor and advocate.

Feros Care Community Support Worker Marion Fleming with her arm around client Diasy sharing a cuppa in the kitchen

Not many people can say they’ve ‘worked’ with the same person for over 15 years, but Marion Fleming can. And what’s more, she’s never looked back.

A respected and popular Feros Care Community Support Worker, Marion spends her days doing what she loves; helping aged care clients, including the unstoppable Daisy. 95 years young, full of life, and as sharp as a tack, it’s not hard to see how this lovable ‘pocket rocket’ has inspired Marion to stick around for a decade and a half.

Much-loved Feros Care team member Lorraine Perkins knows a thing or two about job satisfaction. She shares her experiences with working at Feros Village Wommin Bay.

Feros Care Wellbeing Manager Russell Hargreaves standing in church wearing 'SMASHING' documentary series shirt

Wellbeing Manager Russ Hargreaves is many things – a minister, a valued part of the Feros Care team, a proud member in Feros Care’s Pride Support Network, and a leading advocate for the rainbow community, helping foster a culture of inclusion and acceptance.

The smiles that light up seniors’ faces when Russ Hargreaves enters the room say it all.
