How does the Government approval process work?

To get approved for services, you need to register with the Government’s My Aged Care. If you phone us on 1300 763 583, we can complete a referral to My Aged Care to get the process started.

There are five main steps in the process

You will need to register your details with My Aged Care. They will do a phone screen to discuss your needs and the care you’re receiving at the moment. They will then refer you to get an assessment by the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) if you are eligible.
ACAT will visit you in your home and work out how much help you need. It’s normal to feel anxious at the idea of ‘getting assessed’ but the team are simply there to find out what types of care and services will help you. You can have a friend or relative with you and you don’t need to make any decisions at the time.
If you are eligible for a home care package you will need to complete an income and assets test in order to receive government subsidy towards the costs of your aged care. It can take between four to six weeks for the assessment to come through so it could be a good idea to start this early in the process. You don’t have to wait for an ACAT assessment to do so. Access the income assessment form here. Find out how much you might pay.
It’s important to find a provider that will be able to meet your needs. You should consider things like the types of services they provide, their approach to care, staff and use of technology. Take a look at why to choose Feros or call us on 1300 763 583 to chat to one of your friendly team.
If you are approved for care you may be placed on the Government national waitlist. Once you have moved to the front you can get started with services. Simply ring us to get your services started!
