Social Support and Companionship For Seniors

Services available in QLD, NSW, VIC, and ACT

Having good social connections is essential for all aspects of your health, especially as you age. The Community Visitors Program can help you or your loved one stay connected while waiting for a government subsidised Home Care Package, or provide you with companionship while receiving care.

Is the Community Visitors Program for me?

The program is available for any senior over the age of 65, who is either currently on the national waitlist for a Home Care Package or has a government subsidised Home Care Package in place. The seniors who would benefit most from this program may

  • live at home alone;
  • have no immediate family or friends living close by;
  • are isolated geographically;
  • have a disability.

About the Community Visitors Program

The Community Visitors Program is a free service available to Australian seniors who meet the eligibility criteria. Visits under the Community Visitors program do not replace any of the services provided under a Home Care Package, but rather enhance the service. The program is open to Feros Care and non-Feros Care clients. If you are currently receiving a Home Care Package from another service provider you are welcome to join the program at any time.

The program connects seniors and volunteers, based on their interests and values, for regular one-on-one outings, in-home visits, social outings, group activities, virtual community sessions via the Virtual Senior Centre or social phone calls.

Activities might include:

  • Time spent together in your home chatting over a cuppa or playing cards;
  • Outings to cafes, the movies, the local park or appointments;
  • Visiting friends or attending a social club;
  • Regular social chats on the phone.
