Free help for seniors across Australia

Get in touch

Having good social connections and someone to rely on is essential for all aspects of your health, especially as you age. Our free volunteer program can help you or your loved one stay connected while waiting for a Home Care Package, or provide you with assistance while receiving care. We match you up with a like-minded volunteer, who can help you with a variety of things in and around your home.

Is the program available to me?

The program is available to any senior over the age of 65, who is either currently on the national waitlist for a Home Care Package, has a government- subsidised Home Care Package in place, or is in residential care. The seniors who would benefit most from this program may:

  • live at home alone;
  • have no immediate family or friends living nearby;
  • are isolated geographically;
  • have a disability.

About the free volunteer program

Our volunteer program ranges from community and residential help to social support, and is available to Australian seniors who meet the eligibility criteria. Visits under the program do not replace any of the services provided under a Home Care Package, but rather enhance the service. The program is open to Feros Care and non-Feros Care clients. If you are currently receiving a Home Care Package from another service provider you are welcome to join the program at any time.

The program connects seniors and volunteers, based on their interests and values, for regular one-on-one help, in-home visits, social outings, group activities, virtual community sessions via the Virtual Senior Centre or social phone calls.

Activities might include:

  • Time spent together in your home chatting over a cuppa or playing cards;
  • Help in and around the home, such as light gardening, small home maintenance tasks, or cooking together;
  • Outings to cafes, the movies, the local park or appointments;
  • Visiting friends or attending a social club;
  • Assistance with technology;
  • Regular social chats on the phone.
