Streamlining Access to the NDIS

Feros Care is committed to people care and we’ve been proudly caring for people for almost 30 years. We’re a non-profit organisation, supporting people from 7 to 100+ to live healthier, better connected and more fulfilling lives through people centred aged care and Local Area Coordination services. We deliver Local Area Coordination (LAC) services in Townsville, Mackay, the ACT, Northern Adelaide and the Barossa region. Our role as the LAC is to provide information and support around the NDIS, and to work with the communities to help them to build their capacity for inclusion. Our team in the Barossa, based in Gawler is working with local GPs and Allied Health professionals to streamline the process to access the NDIS – a win-win for all.

We’re working alongside GPs and Allied Health professionals to support their patients to access the NDIS.

GPs and Allied Health professionals are a vital part of the process when a participant seeks access to the NDIS. During our time as the LAC in the area and working in collaboration with GPs and Allied Health professionals we’ve identified that this busy group is seeking better access to tools and resources that allow them to fully understand the scheme.

Our GP Connect Project is well underway, and what started from consultation between the LAC and Allied Health and GP services has now grown to a community capacity building program with a range of key stakeholders in the health sector. NDIS ‘Champions’ were identified in the region. These Champions are GPs, Allied Health professionals and Practice Managers who have volunteered their time to help build a platform which includes training with our LAC team with the aim to provide them with the knowledge and ongoing support to assist their clients to participate in the NDIS. Additionally, community Champions will be well positioned to be the go-to person for NDIS amongst their colleagues, an example of how communities can come together to build their own solutions.

The  intended outcome of GP Connect is to  work alongside GPs and Allied Health professionals to support their patients to access the NDIS—making  accessing the NDIS streamlined and simple for both health professionals and their clients.

If you are a GP, Practice Manager or Allied Health professional and would like to be a Champion or part of the project please contact Feros Care on 1300 986 970.
