Spend less time cooking and more time enjoying life with our meal preparation service

Client Jennifer* spills the beans on how Feros Care’s meal preparation service has not only made life easier but also served up a healthy dose of social connection.

Tired of planning and preparing your meals? Perhaps you have a health condition that makes standing or moving about in the kitchen difficult. Or maybe you’d just like to have a chat with a friendly, familiar face who – as a bonus – can help with the cooking?

Did you know that Feros Care clients with a Home Care Package (HCP) or Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) can access our popular meal preparation service?

A Community Support Worker can work with you to develop menus based on your dietary requirements and personal preferences, plan shopping lists, and either cook or help you cook the meals.

85-year-old Jennifer is one client who signed up for this handy service. She shares with us how it makes life easier, more connected, and helps she and her husband John* remain living in their own home.

Jennifer’s story

Jennifer loves the comforts and familiarity of living at home but found that her health conditions were making some daily tasks a challenge, like cooking and meal preparation.

“I have macular degeneration and am partially blind,” says Jennifer. “This means I can’t cook very much, and John has had several strokes and can’t help in the kitchen either.”

So, Jennifer decided to add meal preparation to the services they receive from Feros Care – and they haven’t looked back!

A little help – with big benefits

Feros Care Wellbeing Manager, Nicola, explains that the service is very enabling for clients, as they can choose the level of involvement that suits them best.

“Clients can specify how much they would like – or are physically able – to be involved in the cooking and meal preparation. Then, we can take care of the rest!”

“They can include their own much-loved recipes, or work with our team to introduce new meals to suit their dietary requirements – whatever works for them.”

“I say ‘you’re the chef and we provide the sous chef’, she laughs.

More than just help in the kitchen

Nicola makes a very important point when talking about meal preparation.

“It’s not only the physical help making the day to day more manageable. Just as importantly, meal preparation also provides an opportunity for clients to connect with others which can improve overall wellbeing.”

“Being able to interact and talk to someone is just as valuable as the convenience. Clients love the social aspect, and our Community Support Workers love nothing more than lending an ear, having a chat, and of course, sharing their tried and tested cooking skills,” she beams.

Clients like Jennifer couldn’t agree more.

“It (meal preparation) has made both or our lives so much easier and I look forward to Margaret, the Community Support Worker, visiting to help me plan, cook, and freeze our meals,” says Jennifer.

“She is so easy to chat to and we get on very well. Plus, she’s a very good cook!”

“It is honestly such a big help for both John and I.”

Meal preparation AND heavily subsidised meal delivery services

Jennifer adds that she doesn’t take advantage of Feros Care’s meal preparation service, but she and John also use our discounted Lite n’ Easy meal delivery service, covering up to 70% of order costs.

“It’s great and provides such a huge saving for us. We love it.”
