We saw the opportunity to link people with disability to mentors within the community, assisting with the creation and fulfilment of business ideas, and ensuring employment sustainably.
54 attendees were successfully linked with the employers, government agencies and business supports that could help bring their business idea to life. They had access to information including business grants, creating a sustainable business plan and heard from people with disability who had turned their business dreams into reality.
As a result of this employment expo, our national teams are adding a self-employment component to their employment projects.
Do you have a business idea that you would like to turn into a reality?
Following the success of our job fairs in Mackay and Townsville, we have more planned for the future. The aim of our employment expos is to link people with employment and provide an opportunity for entrepreneurs in the region to connect with mentors, government support and education to help with their goals.
What did people say about the Queensland job fair?
Most of the employers present indicated they would be following up with interviews for job seekers, and we’re really hopeful that we’ll get some good, sustainable employment outcomes…there’s already a real buzz about what we’ve achieved.
In many ways the job fair wasn’t just about jobs, it was actually a celebration of diverse regional communities and the way we all care for each other.
