The difference our volunteers make
“Del and I clicked from our very first phone call. I was really nervous when I called her, but we just started chatting and surprisingly had lots of things in common. I remember hanging up the phone with the biggest smile on my face as I knew immediately how lucky I was to have met Del.”

“I have learnt that sometimes just taking the time out to hear someone’s story, share in their problems, or just have a casual conversation can make a difference. It has enriched my life by showing me how precious every moment of life is, as well as how powerful human connection and a sense of community can be.”

Aged Care Community Visitor Volunteer Scheme (ACVVS)
Feros Care’s ‘In Great Company’ program, is funded by the Australian Government under the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (previously the Community Visitors Scheme or CVS).
ACVVS began in 1992-93. Its mission is to support community-based organisations, known as auspices, to recruit and match volunteers to older Australians in need of companionship and support. To be eligible for this scheme, participants must be a Home Care Package recipient, approved for a Home Care Package but awaiting services or living in an Australian Government-funded residential aged care facility.
ACVVS is a government-funded service available to aged care residential or home care recipients who are socially isolated and at risk of loneliness, and do not have regular contact with friends or relatives. These individuals may also have mobility or other impairments that prevent them for participating in social or leisure opportunities on their own.
ACVVS aims to improve the general wellbeing, social connectedness, quality of life, and independence of those participating in the scheme.
