How is works
Just let us know you’re interested in an assessment by calling 1300 090 256 and asking about our continence services, or request a callback.
Our Registered Nurse will get in touch to book a time for the assessment, either face-to-face or online via Telehealth. The nurse will work with you to understand what is important to you, or your loved one, and develop a plan to meet your needs.
It might help to prepare for the consultation by writing down information that describes the problem, such as:
- Your symptoms
- How often they occur
- Specific times of the day or activities
- Your current medication
If you have any specific questions, you might also like to write them down. Some examples include:
- Do I need any tests?
- What are the treatment options available to me?
- What are the costs associated?
For women, pregnancy, prolapse or menopause can all affect continence; and for men, prostate or after dribble. Illnesses and chronic conditions such as diabetes, dementia and Parkinson’s can also make a difference to continence, and so it’s great to know your medical history where relevant.
How we can support you
There are so many different ways we can support with continence. Our highly experienced Registered Nurses are experts in working through problems caused by illnesses, injuries or other factors.
Here are just some of the ways in which we can help:
- Creating a personalised continence support care plan
- Providing information on the latest continence aids and technology
- Discussing prevention of bladder or bowel problems
- Supporting with catheter care and replacement
- Supporting with continence aid funding applications (depending on your eligibility)
- Helping you connect with specialist services when required
Is there a cost for the program?
Continence Advisory service can be arranged under all community aged care funding programs including – Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP), Home Care Package (HCP) and Short-Term Restorative Care (STRC). There will be a client contribution cost involved for services arranged under CHSP. For services provided via your HCP or STRC program, this will be paid out of your budget for support.
Speak to our friendly customer experience team on 1300 090 256 or your wellbeing manager for further information about costs involved.
