How it all started
Older Australians account for almost one-quarter of people living alone around the country, and many are feeling isolated, anxious, and vulnerable.
In 2020, the ‘1,000 Notes of Friendship’ campaign was launched because we wanted to impact 1,000 lives and let seniors know they matter.
You know how it feels when you get a surprise letter in your mailbox. It makes you feel pretty special, right? That’s exactly how these seniors felt when thousands of community members joined the movement.
Notes were sent to over 1,000 clients nationwide, we quickly reached our target, and the feedback has been so fantastic, we aren’t stopping there – our Notes of Friendship program is here to stay!
We want to reach as many isolated seniors as possible and continue the amazing legacy 1,000 Notes of Friendship started.
Anyone is welcome to send in their note of friendship, we’ve been working with individuals, early learning centres, schools, and workplaces to create beautiful notes of friendship for seniors.
So, join us! Put your pen to paper, and let’s tackle loneliness, one note at a time!
Here are some of the messages we have received from our seniors
I received the card and my daughter read it to me. We found the card very touching. This card was extra special because it was signed by Darlene. My daughter passed away when she was quite young with cancer and her name was also Darlene. Brought tears to my eyes.
Alice from Hunter Valley NSW
The only person I see is my carer Terre, so I was very touched by the letter I received. I read the letter to all my online colleagues from the Virtual Social Centre.
Kristine from Cessnock NSW
The card I received made my day! Thank you. It meant so much to me, I cried reading it.
Ros from Howard QLD
