In Queensland, we have local working group members in both Townsville and Mackay. The group joined together for the initial session virtually, and then continued for the second half of the meeting in their respective face-to-face locations.
Shape Feros Care’s practices and initiatives – LWG members were presented with an overview of two current projects underway around Inclusive information sessions and employment pathways for people with disability. Insights included looking to the big organisations already working inclusively in business, and students mentoring other students around what they can do next.
How can employers foster more inclusive workplaces?
- Be aware of hidden discrimination
- Education regarding the sometimes episodic nature of disability, especially in relation to mental health
- People with disability experience many barriers in simply traveling to a workplace
