Effervescent 83-year-old Feros Care client, Lenore, an ex-nurse and ex aged care volunteer, certainly knows the importance of social interaction – particularly as we age. The lovely Lenore speaks about her experience with our Social Groups as a participant, and with a wider lens due to her background. She explains that they are a great motivator for seniors feeling displaced and seeking fulfillment, with many benefits for overall wellbeing.
Like many people, the Covid-19 pandemic was a very difficult time for 75-year-old Alan. After experiencing blood pressure issues and being referred to Feros Care for monitoring via the Virtual Nursing program, he discovered the groundbreaking VSC platform.
This proved to be a life-changing decision and three years on, he has never looked back. In fact, his passion for the platform has only continued to gain momentum, with Alan holding the record for attending the most VSC sessions in 2023!
Feros Care has relaunched our popular Social Groups, making it easy for people of all ages to experience a day of fun, connection, and discovery with a qualified Community Support Worker. Besides bringing people together, Feros Care employee Jan says Feros Care Social Groups allow seniors to see or do something different and immerse themselves in a vibrant community experience. Christmas 2023 more than 500 seniors felt the love of their community through More the Merrier campaign. The campaign combats the loneliness of seniors, especially at Christmas time.
It’s not often that you meet someone you “instantly click with”, but that was certainly the case for Sharon and Dorothy. These lovely women, from two different states, turned their virtual friendship into an in-person one after two years of sharing recipes on the Virtual Social Centre (VSC).
With a hearty laugh overflowing with optimism, it’s hard to imagine 69-year-old Jill ever feeling down. It wasn’t long ago, however, during an endless wait for a heart transplant, she faced a choice – to remain stuck in a rut or start living. With courage (and a self-directed kick in the rear), she enrolled in Feros Care’s Healthy Me, Healthy Community (HMHC) program.
Now, she’s making each day count instead of counting down the days.
Moving into residential aged care posed a significant lifestyle adjustment for 78-year-old James (Jim) Woodford. When he heard about the Healthy Me, Healthy Community (HMHC) program, Jim was keen to find out more information so he could establish how this free 15-week social wellbeing program could help him build connections within his local community.
