7 technology products covered by HCP that will make your life easier
Technology is constantly evolving and can feel daunting, but it has the power to improve your quality of life as you age.
Depending on your Home Care Package (HCP) level, you may have access to a range of Goods, Equipment and Assistive Technology (GEAT) that can enable you to stay in your home longer and retain your independence.
With Feros Care’s tech-savvy team on hand to help you set up your technology and learn how to use it, the process couldn’t be easier. Here are the seven most popular technology products that help our clients live their best lives.
1. Tipping kettle
Has lifting your heavy kettle every time you want a cuppa become too challenging? A tipping kettle sits in a rotating cradle that allows you to effortlessly tilt the kettle to pour hot water into your cup. No more heavy lifting, straining or worrying about losing your balance!
2. Automatic jar, can and bottle openers
Imagine opening all your jars, cans and bottles at the touch of a button. Simply place the one-touch can opener on the top of any can, press the button and watch it walk around the can before switching off automatically.
The jar and bottle openers feature two outer claws that adjust to the size of the jar or bottle and stabilise them while opening the lid. All you have to do is press the button and presto! All your containers will be open and ready to use.
3. Dial key safes
You’ll never have to worry about locking yourself out of your home again. Choose a wall-mounted key safe or a padlock key safe that can be hung on a fence, place a key inside it and set a combination code you’ll easily remember. If you get locked out, simply turn the dials to the correct combination code to get your spare key. You can also share the code with family or friends so they can easily get inside in case of emergency or to look after your home when you’re away.
4. Shower chair
Whether your mobility, strength or balance is reduced, or you simply find it difficult to stand in the shower for long periods, a shower chair can help you shower safely and independently. Adjustable legs allow you to place the seat at the perfect height and non-slip rubber feet prevent the chair from sliding. Shower chairs are also corrosion-resistant for durability. Just sit back, relax and take all the time you need.
5. Robot and stick vacuums
When vacuuming has become too difficult (or you simply want to make your life easier!), a robot or stick vacuum cleaner will be your new best friend! A robot vacuum will thoroughly clean your floors, plus can even take care of messes and clean deep into corners and along edges. And, would you believe it empties itself into a disposable airtight bag that holds up to 30 bins of dirt, dust and hair? Or if you’d prefer a low maintenance and easily manoeuvrable vacuum that you control, a stick vacuum is a gamechanger. Super lightweight, high-performing, and adaptable, you can tackle those hard-to-reach places without the achy arms!
6. Tablet
More compact than a laptop computer but with a bigger screen than a smartphone, a tablet will open up a world of possibilities. From watching your favourite TV shows to browsing the internet and video-calling your grandkids, this easy-to-use device will keep you connected with your loved ones and the outside world.
7. Retractable hose reel
Tired of fighting with your garden hose when you need to unravel it, wind it back up or undo knots and kinks? A retractable hose reel is the perfect solution for all your hose woes. The wall-mounted reel allows you to smoothly and safely unwind and pack away your hose without a kink in sight.
The Feros Care team is always on hand to help you make the most of your Home Care Package and figure out which assistive technologies are right for you.
If you have an urgent need but your HCP hasn’t been approved yet or you have insufficient funds, you may be able to access up to $2500 per year towards Goods, Equipment and Assistive Technology through the Commonwealth Home Support Programme.
